Since 2000, Jeff has been a member of several local groups.
During the day, Jeff works with individuals with disabilities to support them in preparing for and finding employment within the community. Having served as the chairperson for the Treasure Coast Interagency Transition Counsel, Board Member for several Not-for-Profits, and previously owner of Pathway to Independence, Jeff brings a wealth of leadership and operations knowledge to the Pops. percussionist in HS and played with (gulp) adults in the South Orange Symphony (NJ).
From this experience, she knew she could pursue a career as a marine biologist and
STILL be a musician all her life. She later switched to French horn and between
research trips and having a family, she managed to find music groups everywhere she
went. She was a Board member at her children’s school for 8 years (4 as Secretary)
and helped with the science program at there. She also organized very popular school
assemblies, roping in generous musician friends who demonstrated their instruments,
made the students laugh, and spoke directly to them about their lifelong love of music.

Kathy started her musical journey in Carmel NY where she began playing violin in the 4th grade. Playing in a symphony orchestra all through grade school and high school she branched out after college at Boston University to play fiddle in a contra dance band and then in an Irish band specializing in traditional music. Most of her working career (aside from summer waitressing jobs) was as a social worker in skilled nursing facilities. She is now happily retired from that arena but continues in the health care field part time in pain management. Kathy enjoys pickleball, crossword puzzles, traveling and spending time with her husband and two children, Brandon and Kelly, whenever their paths cross.

President’s Report – New Gardens Band Inc. 2024
May 5, 2024
Jeff Hancock – Board President
As I look back over the past year, I am in awe of the boxes we have been able to check off in such a short amount of time. The level of growth in this group is beyond compare. Following a very difficult year, we have not only come back, but surpassed goals and expectations. Membership and musicianship is at an all-time high with some of the strongest sections on the Treasure Coast. Under Michael Robbins' direction, we have pushed the limits with our musical selections and continue to build our abilities to work as an ensemble. We are recruiting some of the most amazing players into our orchestra. In this past year we have added an oboe, 2 bassoons, a French horn, a string bass, and a piano player among others. All at a near professional level.
Next, we have the performances. Adding new venues and expanding across the Treasure Coast was only the beginning. Our New Year’s Eve show was beyond sold out. A first in recent years, we broke the 250 attendees' mark. We have taken the stage alongside world renowned recording stars like Terry Barber. We have moved to a nearly exclusively online ticketing sales format which allows us to better plan for our events. For the first time, we included small ensembles into dedicated concerts and showcased our own featured soloists to show the public the true skills and abilities of our members.
Behind the scenes, things were just as productive as on stage. We rebuilt our website from scratch, we moved to a nearly exclusive online ticketing format, created a YouTube channel, begun to digitize our music library, brought in a resident composer to customize our concerts like no other community orchestra. Lastly, we have completed a huge undertaking of revising and passing our Articles of Incorporation and By-laws. This has ensured that our organization will continue to thrive through the years.
Additionally, we have improved our logistical needs by moving to a secure storage facility for our music library and equipment. As our equipment has historically been stored in the back of a box truck, the longevity has been greatly compromised. We now have a dedicated location for storage and maintenance of our valuable gear and extensive collection of music. We have also recently parted with the truck which was in need of extensive mechanical upkeep, bringing much needed funds back into the program.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the support of our members and the Board. I want to thank each of you for making this year so successful.
Now we look forward to a new year. The first goal of this new year will be to expand on where we left off. We will be supporting our marketing and fundraising committees by holding monthly meetings and providing resources for more success. Getting the word out to the community about our program is one of our highest goals for this next year. It is a shame that we continue to hear from the community that they did not know we have an orchestra on the Treasure Coast. We would like to investigate more community partnerships and corporate sponsorships to allow us to put on more elaborate shows and bring our music to more people in the community.
As the President, my personal goal for this year is to see us cover our annual budget through sponsorships and grants.
Thank you again to everyone for your support through this past year and I look forward to what awaits us in 2025.
